San Francisco was the perfect destination for my sister and I to catch up after a couple of months of not seeing each other, it was also a great start to our long weekend getaway. We stayed at HI San Francisco downtown and truly I don’t think we could of have chosen a better place to stay. I was very impressed by the looks of this hostel, probably one of the most beautiful hostels I have ever seen. Located right in the heart of downtown, the hostel offers very fresh and modern décor. The rooms offered are private or dorm style and are very colorful and well furnished. The hostel has six floors, lounge areas, a small theatre room to watch movies, laundry facilities, and an open kitchen and seating area where breakfast is offered every morning.
A great choice if you are looking for a great location, amazing staff and accommodations at an affordable price. HI San Francisco Downtown is more than that, when I first looked into staying here I was attracted by their Green Foot Prints program, where they have designed four different routes having the hostel as a starting point to help you explore and experience San Francisco by bus, bike or even by foot.
My sister and I chose the last option, you can not get any greener than walking everywhere and so we decided to walk through this beautiful town all day. After grabbing breakfast at the hostel we headed to blue bottle to grab a single origin coffee pour over; no doubt that the best way to start your day is with a great cup of coffee and perfect company. After reaching blue bottle which is located only a few blocks away from the hostel, we headed to Chinatown which is literally a 15 minute walk away from downtown.
I am not going to get into exact details about our day but I am going to tell you that after Chinatown we headed to pier 1 and it was there the true walking experience for us began. We both decided to walk from there all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge. We walked through all of the piers, fisherman’s wharf, Ghirardelli square, Lombard St. to reach the Golden Gate for hours after. Crazy walkers right? I can only tell you that it was so worth it. Walking through this beautiful town on a perfect fall day while snapping photos, grabbing freshly cook and caught seafood snacks, delicious chocolate and locally brewed beer, was definitely the perfect way for my sister and I to catch up in our lives while exploring San Francisco.
So next time you are thinking on planning to visit San Francisco or any other destination I invite you to think about how much you could see by waking while helping the environment and leaving your green prints.
